Full Description: As many as five million people in the United States are believed to be suffering from Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), yet it remains an under-recognized psychiatric illness. BDD is understood to be similar to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and has been reclassified in the DSM-5 in a new category, Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders. Characterized by tormenting, obsessive thoughts concerning physical appearance, those who suffer from BDD believe that aspects of their physical appearance are deformed in some way – yet these perceived flaws are barely, if at all, noticeable to others. The primary focus of this webinar is to understand the diagnostic criteria of BDD and its most effective treatment strategies, including medications and cognitive-behavioral therapy. GRANET, LCSW, has taught continuing education classes on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) throughout the U.S., including at the University of California at Berkeley Extension, The University of Chicago School of Social Service, and the Rutgers University School of Social Work. He has written various articles, presented at numerous U.S. and international conferences, and has appeared on national and local television and radio shows. Mr. Granet is a psychotherapist with the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and in 2008 opened the OCD-BDD Clinic of Northern California.
